1. Liability Coverage
Required in almost every state. Covers damage and injuries you cause to others in an accident. Includes bodily injury (BI) and property damage (PD).
2. Collision Coverage
Pays to repair or replace your car after an accident, regardless of fault. Usually required if you have a car loan or lease.
3. Comprehensive Coverage
Covers non-collision damage: theft, vandalism, weather, animal strikes, and falling objects. Often bundled with collision as "full coverage."
4. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist
Protects you if the at-fault driver has no insurance or not enough to cover your damages.
5. Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
Covers medical expenses for you and passengers regardless of fault. Required in no-fault states.
6. Medical Payments (MedPay)
Similar to PIP but more limited. Covers medical bills for you and passengers after an accident.
7. Gap Insurance
Covers the difference between your car's value and what you owe on your loan if the car is totaled.
8. Roadside Assistance
Covers towing, flat tires, lockouts, and jump starts. Usually an affordable add-on.
9. Rental Reimbursement
Pays for a rental car while yours is being repaired after a covered claim.
